As kids make the transitions from crawling, to walking, it is likely that they are going to want to try out other things. One of the main things they look for is what their parents are doing, such as driving, riding bicycles, or even motorcycles. A great way for them to replicate what you are doing is to allow them to have some riding toys, which look similar to the vehicles that you are using.
We all know that every child wants to drive a car or even ride a motorbike. Luckily, with ride on toys, this will become a reality for them. Some are battery powered, some are push along, whereas others have pedals. There is literally a riding toy for every scenario and every budget.
The best thing that a parent can do for young children is give them some independence. This means that steering clear of the riding toys that requiring pushing would be a good idea. Allowing children independence will give them a sense of power, and will let them learn slowly but surely on their own, applying their knowledge to the task in hand.
This means that either a pedal powered ride-on toy, or a battery powered toy is going to be ideal. Of course, which one a parent chooses is entirely up to them, as it will really depend on budget. The reality is that the pedal based toys can be extremely inexpensive and some can be purchased second hand for only a few dollars.
On the other hand, the likes of battery powered toys have reduced in price over the last few years. They are becoming more and more affordable, yet they are still a lot more expensive than pedal toys.
So what are the differences? Well, pedal toys are generally good for around the driveway, in the park and so on. The reality is that kids will get tired extremely quickly, so going on a long walk with them pedaling is probably not wise. The fact is though, they have no limit on speed, so going down hills could prove challenging.
On the other hand, a battery powered item might be better for the walks to the shops and similar scenarios. Just remember, that these batteries require constant charging so that they do not run out of power. That does not mean that these are not the best choice, but it is worth taking into account the two different types of riding toys before purchasing one.
